Hi,
As an illustrator & creator of surface pattern designs I work with different techniques to reflect the themes I working on, mainly collage & watercolour painting. To create designs for the home furnishing market I work with my paintings & collages in photoshop. I also love to get my hands sticky & create one off collages, working with found papers, pages from old books & painted textures. I live & work in the coastal village of Silverdale & my work is inspired by the loveliness of the surrounding countryside, coastline & the birds & animals that also call it home.
I was born into a family of textile women, my glamorous gran ran a textile factory, me & my sisters would spend time “helping” her there, making dolls clothes from offcuts. Going to art collage was all I considered doing & after studying Textile Design at the University of Ulster I worked as a designer/colourist for 15 years in the textile print industry.
When my daughters came along I left industry to set up my own studio & now work freelance as an illustrator, surface pattern designer/maker & tutor. I love to share my skills & knowledge & run workshops in collage, felt making & shibori dyeing. These are run either in my studio, or adult education venues. I also visit art groups, textile guilds & work in schools.
